All the therapies which we offer at our Terme & Wellness Palace centre have a beneficial effect on the health, beauty and well-being of everyone. When choosing the most appropriate therapies, whether preventive or curative, or when encountering more serious present or past health problems, you will be given expert help by our doctors, who have specialized in more areas, like physical medicine and rehabilitation, dermatology, orthopaedics, acupuncture, balneology and other.
Diagnostics of body structure
This is an integral part of the weight loss and cellulite removal programmes. Besides the evaluation of the basic metabolism, it gives us information on the hydration of the body and the quantity of muscle and fat mass, the excessive quantity of which can lead to serious health problems. It is precisely the information regarding muscle volume and fatty mass that makes the diagnostics of the body structure also an excellent informative diagnostic method when treating people with excessive body weight and people who do not exercise sufficiently, or a suitable method of following up the results in cases of individual persons who have decided on a more active way of life.
Diagnostics of bone structure - DENSITOMETRY
This type of diagnostics states the density of our bones. Old age, genetics, the way of life, the diet, the medications and, last but not least, the illnesses, all help to bring about a reduction of bone density, and successively an increased tendency of the bones to break. The examination is painless. Densitometry is recommended primarily to women experiencing menopausal symptoms, women who smoke, who do not exercise sufficiently and have an incorrect diet, as well as to people of average age who have recently suffered a break or fracture.
Acupuncture (AP)
It forms a part of traditional Chinese medicine which is ever more recognised and practiced throughout Europe and America. According to traditional Chinese medicine, our health is based on the undisturbed flow of the body’s energy Chi (Qi) along the body’s meridians. The energy Chi consists of two opposites – Yin and Yang. If they are not in equilibrium, we develop an illness. By treating the energy channels with thin needles we stimulate the self-healing process of the body and restore the equilibrium. The acupuncture is based on the healing of the whole person: the body, spirit and mind. We may perform body AP (corporal), ear AP (auricular) and AP of the scalp (scalp). Acupuncture is most frequently performed by using disposable needles, but may, however, also be administered in form of electro acupuncture, cupping, etc. Acupuncture is extremely effective as a pain-alleviating therapy treating problems of the locomotor system and headaches, being, however, used also for the purpose of relaxation, to treat allergies, asthma, in stop smoking programmes and for other disorders.
Dry needling
This is an effective method of manipulating painful myofascial pressure points (trigger points) which can appear individually or in a greater number than in fibromyalgia. The method is very similar to acupuncture as it also works by inserting acupuncture needles into painful parts of the body.
Pharmaco-acupuncture
A prepared substance is injected into the acupuncture points inducing a long lasting stimulation of these points in order to alleviate pain. The therapy helps treat problems related to the lower back, hips and knees.
Infiltration of a painful point
Doctors perform infiltration of a painful point (block injection) in cases of extremely painful points. Indications are individual points of pain and trigger points in fibromyalgia.
Mesotherapy
It involves the injection of natural substances into critical points in order to reduce fat, improve circulation and induce a body firming and contouring process. It has proven successful in removing cellulite softening effectively the connective tissue and reducing the swelling. The treatment is performed once a week. The first noticeable results can been seen after four weeks, while the optimal results are achieved after 10 or 12 applications.
Inhalations
Brine inhalations are one of the traditional therapies at our Terme & Wellness Palace. The mixture of brine dispersed by aerosol clears the passageways of the respiratory system. The inhaler dispels brine and minerals into minute particles by help of ultrasound effect enabling the droplets to penetrate deeply into the small airways of the lung and, via lung air sacs, into the blood stream. Inhalations help coughing up the mucus and assist in the renewal of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. They strengthen the body’s immune system. They are recommended for people suffering from asthma, respiratory allergies as well as for people recovering from a viral or bacterial infection of the respiratory passageways. Brine inhalation treatment is very beneficial also to people coming from polluted areas, to smokers and people, wishing to give up smoking.
Physical therapy is an important part of general medical therapy and rehabilitation. The aim of physiotherapy is to maintain general fitness and recover maximum mobility, as well as to remove pain for the purpose of ensuring a high quality of life. In order to achieve this, we need to establish an individual approach and accurate diagnosis, to determine the most suitable and focused therapy as well as to ensure close cooperation of the doctor, therapist and the patient. The progress made in the field of knowledge and technical science has brought about also the modernization of basic traditional physiotherapy methods and developed new ways of medical treatment, which we successfully employ at our centre. Our physiotherapeutic services are performed by experienced and highly qualified physiotherapists under the supervision of a doctor specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Kinesis therapy or therapeutic exercise
The treatment aims at increasing muscle strength and resistance, improve coordination, increase speed and range of mobility, prevent and correct deformities, improve the functions of the organ systems and the general condition. Therapeutic exercises can be performed individually or in a group. Group exercises are carried out either in the gym or in the swimming-pool. In the same way as movement represents a fundamental part of our lives, so is kinesis therapy a fundamental part of physical therapy.
Electrotherapy
The therapy makes use of direct and alternating electric current promoting primarily an anti-inflammatory and pain-alleviating effect as well as altering muscle tension, accelerating cellular metabolism, relaxing the veins and stimulating the peripheral nerves. Forms of electrotherapy include electrotherapy with direct electric current (galvanic current) and electrotherapy with alternating electric current, like: therapies with low frequency current (TENS, diadynamic currents, etc.), with medium current (interferential currents) and therapies with high frequency currents.
Light therapy (Phototherapy)
The light treatment consists of exposure to light, either natural (sunlight) or artificial, using infrared and ultraviolet rays of light. Chromotherapy induces relaxation and healing processes by using the light of different colours, which interweave and change according to certain patterns. Chromotherapy is available at our Sauna Park and as a part of bath treatment at the Thalasso Centre. Laser therapy also makes part of the phototherapy.
Mechanical therapy
The health treatment exploits a series of manual and mechanical methods which primarily use pressure, soothing movements, stretching for prevention of pain and improvement of the circulation and metabolism of the cells. It encompasses all therapeutic massages: hand massage, underwater and mechanical massages, tractions, ultrasound etc.
Hydrotherapy
This form of medical therapy is performed in the water or by simply using the water as a treatment tool. The large thermic capacity of water, its resistance and lifting power enable the performance of exercises which would otherwise be impossible to carry out. The temperature difference between the body and the water acts as a stimulant on the skin nerve endings. Water temperature above 34°C has a soothing effect, while water temperature between 20°C and 30°C invigorates the body. Hydrotherapy includes various types of baths and partial or whole body massages as well as exercises in the water.
Individual therapeutic exercises
Therapeutic gymnastics plays a primary role in physical medicine. Movement is carried out passively, actively or against resistance to improve limited mobility of the joints and strengthen the muscles. At the same time we instruct the patient on how to perform appropriate exercises, which he can later include in his daily routine. In the treatment, each patient is given the advantage of having a physiotherapist present during the therapeutic exercises which enables better assistance and supervision of the exercise performance as well as increased patient motivation.
Physiotherapeutic therapy - the Cyriax method
The Cyriax method comprises the determining of a diagnosis after having carried out appropriate tests, and choosing the right therapies, like deep transversal massage, manipulation, mobilisation and traction. This method is most effective for fresh injuries of the locomotor system.
Physiotherapeutic therapy – the McKenzie Method
The McKenzie Method determines the pain and centralizes it by moving it away from the extremities to the central part of the body. By way of appropriate tests we choose a set of exercises for alleviating the pain through moving it from the arm to the neck and from the leg to the back and the lumbar area.
Therapeutic group exercises
They are carried out in our swimming-pools with thermomineral water and in the gym under the supervision of a physiotherapist. The exercises in the water are suitable for all chronic ailments, in particular ailments of the locomotor system, for maintaining overall condition and as a measure of prevention. They represent, most of all, the right choice for people who have difficulty in performing exercises when out of the water. The exercises in the gym however aim at strengthening the general condition of the locomotor system and alleviating problems in the neck and lumbar area of the spine.
Arthromot
Arthromot involves passive exercises without active use of affected structures. Such exercises are best for conditions after injuries or operations on the limbs, when we must not as yet put any active pressure on affected limbs.
Traction / Spinal distraction
This appliance directs the forces to the spine in such a way and with such strength as to cause the individual vertebrae to move from one another and the surrounding soft tissue to stretch. The treatment reduces muscle spasms, helps to loosen the nerve roots and alleviate the pain. Traction is most often used in cases of trapped nerves and degenerative changes in the spine as well as for alleviating tension of the muscles along the spine.
Galvanic currents
The therapy makes use of ordinary water with direct electric current running through it. It is recommended for tired legs, arm and leg cramps, circulation problems, tingling, disturbed sensibility system and for swellings.
Electrostimulation
With the help of low frequency electric currents we induce contractions of the muscles, thus increasing and maintaining muscle mass and strength after an injury as well as restoring the nerves, which were damaged. Therapeutic electrostimulation is used very selectively and focuses solely on the affected muscle or muscle group.
TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation
This anti-pain therapy with low frequency electric currents is recommended for the alleviation of acute and chronic pain. TENS is also used in acupuncture treatment.
DDC or Diadynamic Current
The low frequency currents work on the parasympathetic nervous system reducing tension and rigidity of the muscles, alleviating pain and reducing the swelling after an injury.
IFC or Interference Current
These are medium frequency currents which, on account of their particular characteristics and possibility to position the electrodes, reach deep into the tissue. Besides having a pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effect, they also stimulate the nerves and other structures, thus promoting the renewal processes in tissues and damaged nerves.
Therapy with IR (Infrared) rays
The thermic therapy, used in preventive and curative treatments, stimulates cellular metabolism, improves circulation and the capacity of the tissue to recuperate. It relaxes the muscles and brings pain relief.
Therapy using UV (Ultraviolet) rays
The effect of the therapy is focused primarily on the skin. The rays destroy bacteria and disinfect the skin, which, as a result, becomes smoother and more beautiful in appearance. UV rays promote the formation of vitamin D in the skin, thus preventing or slowing down the onset of osteoporosis. The therapy is recommended for skin changes such as psoriasis, neurodermatitis, for osteoporosis and as a beauty treatment for the skin.
Laser therapy
The therapy involves a focused light of specific frequencies. It improves the tension of the blood veins, the blood circulation in the affected area and consequently, also cellular metabolism and renewal. It promotes the healing of wounds and reduces pain, cramps and localised inflammations. It also acts against bacteria and viruses. Laser therapy is effectively used to treat skin problems (wounds and lesions on the shin, changes in the skin due to herpes or herpes zoster, scars following an operation or an injury) and some diseases of the locomotor system, such as acute conditions (myalgia, sports injuries, conditions after operations, dislocations and blows) and chronic conditions (pains along the spine, degenerative arthritis of larger joints, degenerative arthritis of smaller joints in the arms and legs).
USW or therapy with Ultra Short Waves
This thermic therapy uses a special apparatus to improve the blood flow, promote a beneficial effect on the regeneration of nerves and stiff joints, relieve pain and muscle cramps. It is effective for acute conditions such as sprains and dislocations of joints, for muscle trauma and tearing of muscles, for conditions affecting the locomor system following a broken bone or an operation, for healing wounds and especially for chronic degenerative changes of the locomotor system.
Cryotherapy
The therapy works by using ice to remove the heat from the injured part of the body. It can also be used as a component part of individual exercises. Its effect is beneficial primarily for acute muscle and skeleton injuries accompanied by pain and swellings (sprains, broken bones, shock traumas and operations), for muscle cramps and in medical treatments of trigger points in fibromyalgia.
Ultrasound
In physiotherapy, ultrasound is used to improve the blood circulation, the supply of oxygen and cell renewal. It aims at treating smaller areas and is consequently most frequently used to treat painful areas in chronic degenerative diseases of the spine, for fibromyalgia and the degenerative changes (degenerative arthritis) in some joints.
Magnetic therapy
The treatment is focused on the cell. It works by directing the magnetic field onto a part of the body, thus improving the blood circulation and consequently increasing the amount of oxygen in the tissue, while also reducing localised inflammation as well as alleviating pain. The therapy has proved exceptionally efficient in alleviating pain so much after fresh injuries as in chronic degenerative conditions of the spine and in large and small joints, in treating wounds, healing of broken bones and soft tissues, as well as in the regeneration process of damaged nerves.
Tuina massage (70 minutes)
Tuina is an ancient Chinese medicinal method of massage. The basic Tuina therapeutic massage works on the principle of the flow of energy (Chi / Qi) along the meridians. Through the use of massage and manipulative techniques the therapist focuses on the restoration of balance and the harmonious flow of energy inducing thus the natural process of healing.
Tuina massage – partial massage (20 minutes)
It is a shorter Tuina massage where the therapist only treats a specific part of the body. For the start we always recommend the longer Tuina massage, while partial massage is given to treat specific parts of the body, which are under greater stress and pressure.
Craniosacral therapy (30 minutes or 50 minutes)
In craniosacral therapy, gentle manual pressing, which rarely exceeds the force of 5 grams, is used to treat chronic pains and syndromes which diminish our vitality and weaken our immune system. Craniosacral therapy (CST) demonstrates effectiveness for a variety of health problems, such as: headaches, pains in the neck and lumbar area of the spine, jaw joints disorder, chronic tiredness, problems with the sense of balance, eye difficulties, endogenous depression, hyperactivity and disturbances in the functioning of the central nervous system.
Classical therapeutic massage of the whole body (40 minutes)
The massage of the whole body using oils and pain-soothing cream helps reduce the tension of the muscles accompanying various illnesses. It is very often used as a preventive treatment in problems with the locomotor system.
Classical therapeutic massage - partial (20 minutes)
Partial massage refers to massaging a specific part of the body only, using a special pain-soothing cream to enhance the anti-pain effect of the treatment.
Lymph drainage (40 minutes)
Manual lymph drainage aims at accelerating the flow of the lymph through gentle, rhythmical, pumping movements, which follow the lymph stream. The manipulation stimulates the lymph vessels to contract and, as a result, cleanse the organism and eliminate the toxins. Lymph drainage is never carried out on the whole body, but rather on the affected parts of the body only. It is most frequently used to reduce swelling in the arms and legs, after operations and injuries and for the removal of cellulite.
Shiatsu Massage (40 minutes)
The Shiatsu massage technique has its origins in traditional Japanese medicine and is carried out by applying pressure on the acupressure points, regulating thus the energy in the body. This method of self-healing alleviates stress and tension, soothes the nervous system and strengthens the body and the soul. By help of special exercises, carried out by the therapist, we increase the body’s vitality.
Reflex Massage of the Feet (40 minutes)
By applying pressure on reflex zones on the feet we regulate the functioning of the internal organs and the organ systems. The treatment is effective in a wide range of symptoms: back pain, disturbed digestion, headaches, stress and leg pain. It also acts on inducing the hormonal balance in the body.
